Jewelry Concierge, Saks Fifth Avenue

Third time’s a charm!  JHJ’s Cat Von Schroeder says her jewelry career is her third career, but all roads seem to have led her to our fascinating industry.  Her father had a lot to do with her interest in gems and minerals, fine jewelry and watches.  A lifetime interest in rockhounding, archeology, anthropology, math, science, music, fashion and art as well as a fascination with how things are made makes life-long learning a lifestyle choice for her.

Originally, Cat spent over 30 years in commercial real estate construction, development and finance.  Her career reached a high, but she lost her passion.  While she was working as a senior portfolio manager with a well-known bank, she started to explore hard asset investments in gemstones and precious metals.  Along the way, she learned as much as she could about the industry from the mines to the finished products.

After some deep soul searching, Cat applied to SCAD and was accepted into their MFA program in Fashion Design  It was highly impractical but she loved it, and says it refined her self studies with formal training.

In February of 2018, Cat joined Saks Fifth Avenue to work in the fine jewelry department, and in July of 2018, she was hired by Cartier to manage and represent their business interests within the store.  She says, “I am amazed and very grateful to have been given these opportunities.  It’s truly not work and I am a very lucky woman to be able to reinvent myself and rebuild my life in an area that makes my heart and soul sing.”

Cat joined JHJ when there were only a few thousand members, and has been active ever since.  She believes JHJ has been a large part of her continuing education, and given her an opportunity to meet amazing people who have become friends in the industry.  Cat loves the trading and her JHJ jewelry family!  Connect with Cat on JHJ for networking, advice on fashion and style, and fun!
